Working on a project from start to finish incorporating what was covered in Web Dev 1 and 2 while adding important aspects to running a website, dealing with clients and managing a project.

Marks Breakdown

10% Classroom participation + Attendance
Attendance will be taken at the start of the class
(an allowance of 10 minutes late will be accepted an no later)

This is the type of class that we can not make up for people who are late – if you are late you will have to catch up with a fellow student

WEEK 1: WEB PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  1. Assignment Discussed
  2. Process of Web Design
  3. Copy to your Google Drive or Download Website Brief
  4. Download Website Brief (second option in case link doesn’t work)

COURSE ASSIGNMENT:
Manage all aspects of a project start to finish
Materials to be handed in by end of term:

  • Topic of website
  • Sitemap
  • Domain Name (not registered but must be available)
  • Web Host (not used – just select an appropriate host)
  • Color Scheme
  • Key Words
  • Description
  • Optimized Text content
  • Optimized Images
  • Plug Ins used
  • Link to fully functional website (hosted on The class Bluehost account)

ASSIGNMENT

Select what topic you are going to use for your website.
Decide on a domain name for your project and it must be available
Look for a suitable web host for your project

WEEK 2: WORKING WITH CLIENTS + AGREEMENTS

In class we will discuss :

  1. Client strategies
  2. Negotiations
  3. Pricing a project
  4. Basic Agreements

ASSIGNMENT:
Send a basic web site project agreement that covers the aspects discussed in class

DUE NEXT WEDNESDAY 12 noon

WEEK 3: CONTENT

  1. Create and submit a sitemap
  2. Planning what content is needed
  3. What content can be found and used on the web
  4. What content has to be created

Google search for:
“sample web design brief” to see many options that people use

ASSIGNMENT:
Write the content for the website
(using SEO, use HEADINGS and Page breaks on the doc)
Gather images to be used on the website
Optimize the images in Photoshop
Have a folder of the original images
Have a folder of the optimized images

USE GOOGLE DRIVE
Create a folder in your drive and share a link
(submit the link using the form below)

DUE IN 2 WEEKS (MONDAY 12 noon)

WEEK 4: Working with a Premium Theme

  1. Discuss premium themes
  2. Download and install the Newspaper theme from harrisdigtal.com
  3. Discuss and install demo content
  4. Look at theme features and settings

DUE NEXT WEDNESDAY 12 noon 

Create all the Pages, Categories, Posts for your Website
Create a functioning navigation menu
Add your content to each page/post
Re-evaluate your content once on the site and see if you need more text.

WEEK 5: Premium Theme II

  1. Continue looking at features of the Newspaper theme
  2. Discuss how to back up and move a WordPress website
  3. Check in on project progress

WEEK 6: PROJECT PRESENTATIONS

Please submit your website using the button below

You will receive an email with comments and will have a chance to edit/make changes and re-submit the website based on feedback.

  5. Create a Page (called TEST PAGE)
  6. Create a Category (TEST CATEGORY)
  7. Create 2 Posts – assign to TEST CATEGORY
  8. Create Navigation Menu with (TEST PAGE / TEST CATEGORY / POSTS (add as drop down menu items)

    Contact
    Bio
  2. Create Category:
    Blog
  3. Create 3 Posts and assign to the Blog category
  4. Create a menu, assign a position and include links to:
